This session will present engineering principles of metal cutting operations,
machine tool vibrations and CNC systems. Other topics discussed will include:
- The effect of material properties, tool geometry, and cutting
conditions on torque, power and cutting loads.
- Measurement and evaluation of machine tool stiffness and performance
- Machine tool vibrations and how they can be avoided while increasing
the metal removal rate
- Metal cutting process simulation
- Virtual Machining System developed at UBC
