Seminar

APEGBC is pleased to be offering this seminar in cooperation with the:

The seminar will introduce the new “Seismic Design Guide for Masonry Buildings”. This 300 page state-of-the-art commentary has been co-authored by Don Anderson, Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering, UBC; and Svetlana Brzev, Faculty, Department of Civil Engineering, BCIT.

Highlights of the Guide will be reviewed, including several design examples. There will also be a PowerPoint presentation on masonry construction and standards. Handouts will include a copy of the Guide and the PowerPoint on a CD, along with selected pages from the Guide used in the seminar presentation.

The Guide is organized into five sections:

  1. Review of the seismic provisions of the NBCC
  2. Review of the seismic requirements of CSA S304.1-04, Design of Masonry Structures
  3. Summary of changes between the current and previous seismic provisions in NBCC and S304.1
  4. Design examples
  5. Appendices

The development of the Guide was sponsored by the Canadian Concrete Masonry Producers Association. The Guide is available through the MIBC website at www.masonrybc.org.
