Seminar:

The course covers theory and applications of membrane technologies for drinking water treatment. Other applications (i.e. wastewater treatment and reuse) are also introduced. The course is structured to provide opportunities to learn the fundamental principles governing the performance of membrane systems, and to apply this fundamental theory to optimize the performance of membrane systems and to address operational challenges.

Exercises, with computer models and/or pilot-scale membrane systems, are used to provide hands-on training. All the necessary background information needed to understand the fundamental theory is provided. Consequently, the course is relevant to all water treatment professionals including treatment system operators, design engineers, and plant/regional managers interested in membrane technologies for water treatment.

Speaker:

Dr. Pierre Bérubé, P.Eng. - Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of British Columbia

The course is taught by Dr. Pierre Bérubé, a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Bérubé has over 15 years of research and consulting experience dealing with membrane systems for water and wastewater treatment and has authored over 40 publications on membrane theory and operations.

What previous participants have said about this seminar:

  • "Great speaker! Entertaining and informative! Held my interest through the day. "
  • "Excellent course! Great overview of membrane systems."
  • "Great content, presentation, pace of coverage."
