In order to expect good communication, we must become good communicators. This session develops your communication skills so that they become automatic and are at your finger tips just when you want them, rather than just in your mind.
The session is delivered through individual learning, self assessments, dyad and small group discussion and case studies. Facilitation is done through a “coach approach” delivery style. The learner will be challenged to become good communicators in order to receive good communication in their lives.
There is no role playing - learning is linked to experiential case studies. There is group discussion and individual participation in all modules. The overall theme is about enhancing communication beyond simple dialogue – learning what is behind the words, how to listen contextually and through questioning and other techniques get to the true nature of dialogue. It also examines what gets in the way of good communication and how to overcome those barriers.
Communication forms the foundation for all our relationships in our careers and in our life. In order to be successful we need to master the skills to communicate effectively and understand the messages others are sending us in their communications, be it words, body language, paralanguage, etc.
Contents of workshop include:
- Group exercises on the impact of communications
- Characteristics of a powerful communicator
- Individual communication skills quiz
- Discovering your own communication ‘style’ and how to communicate with others who have a different ‘style’
- The communication model
- Ladders of inference
- Barriers to communication
- Listening contextually (and an individual listening quiz)
- The power of questions and how to use questions to evoke discovery of self and others
- Communicating in difficult situations
- Giving and receiving feedback
