Seminar Description

Regardless of whether one calls them project delivery options or contracting strategies, there is a seemingly-endless list of different way to achieve the same end. Methods have evolved from the Master Builder approach in the ancient world to the highly-fractured options that have dominated construction projects over the past decades. We now appear to be on a trend of integrating design and construction.

Topics presented will include:

  • Traditional Project Delivery Options:
    • Design-Bid-Build
    • Construction Management – Fee or At-risk
    • Design-Build
  • Four Selection Tools
    • California Department of Transportation Decision Drivers
    • Highway infrastructure
    • CII Owner's Tool
    • 7 Step Selection Method
    • The Matrix Method
  • New Project Delivery Options:
    • Partnering
    • Alliance Contracting
    • Bidding the risk
    • Public-Private Partnerships (P3)
    • Early contractor involvement
    • Integrated Project Delivery

The lecture material will be interspersed with case studies and exercises applying the new tools.
