Seminar

Watersheds and aquifers are the sources for drinking water. These source water areas are subject to many activities that may impact drinking water quality and quantity, thus posing challenges for the communities that must supply drinking water. Professionals from the engineering, geoscience, forestry, agriculture and other sectors are often tasked to find solutions to source protection issues.

This workshop will provide information and tools for professionals engaged in source protection specific to British Columbia. Topics will include: the operational framework for source protection, liability and due diligence issues, information and science tools, BC case studies, and a panel discussion on the challenges, barriers and opportunities in implementing source protection in BC.

Agenda

  • Regulatory and Non-Regulatory Tools for Source Water Protection in BC - Valerie Cameron P.Geo.
  • Available Tools, Information, and Data Sources - Tony Cheong P.Geo.
  • Watershed Risk Assessment Modelling - Martin Carver P.Eng. P.Geo.
  • Source Protection Science: Bacterial Source Tracking and Other Innovations - Dr. Azit Mazumder
  • Surface Water Protection - Derek Bonin RPF
  • Ground Water Protection: Abbotsford Aquifer - Marc Zubel P.Eng.
  • Range Practices Case Study: Managing Rangeland under FRPA - Doug Fraser
  • Lambly Source Water: Range Practices - Don Dobson P.Eng.
