Seminar

Value Engineering, also known as Value Analysis (VA) or the more-generic Value Management (VM) is a review process that seeks alternatives to perform the identified functions at minimum life cycle cost.  Value is defined as the ratio of performance to cost. That is, how much benefit at what cost. The lecture material of this one-day workshop covers the history, benefits and process for enhancing the value of manufactured products as well as capital projects.

Topics presented will include:

  • What is Value Engineering?
  • Context of RIGHT Processes
  • Classic Case  – Sumas Canal
  • Origins and Current Applications
  • New Concepts including:
    • cost models and life-cycle costing
    • functions and FAST diagrams
    • worth and value
  • Value Studies and their Stages
  • Why Do We Do Value Studies?
  • Case Studies
  • Review & Feedback

This workshop will consist of a number of group exercises to provide useable experience.
