An EIT is a member
of APEGBC who has demonstrated academic qualification, but
is still working toward gaining the required 4 years of engineering
experience for P.Eng. registration.
What
are the benefits?
How
long does it take?
How
much does it cost?
How
do I apply?
The EIT online
reporting system allows EITs to report their engineering work
experience in 6 to 12-month increments. Each work period
can be reviewed and credited online towards the 4-year requirement
for a P.Eng. application. This convenient system replaces
the need for the logbook/work experience log and the optional
midterm interview.
EITs may sign up for the system by
sending an email to our
EIT/GIT
Registration Coordinator.
You will then receive further instructions
on how to record and receive feedback on your work experience.
This feedback will come to you in experience credits (in months)
and in comments from the reviewer of your work experience.
Although this system is available to all EITs and experience
can be recorded retroactively, it is of greatest value to
those with less experience.
When you decide to begin creating work summaries, please first verify that your P.Eng. supervisor
is available to use the online system. Then, start with your
oldest experience, including any pre-graduation experience
(co-op or summer) that you gained after completion of your second year
of university studies under the supervision of a P.Eng.
If any of the following apply to you:
- you are an EIT or MAPS student who has been set up to use the Online Experience Reporting System;
- you are a Supervisor who has received notification that a work summary has been submitted for your approval;
- you are a Reviewer who has received notification that a work period has been assigned to you for review,
you can access the Online Experience Reporting System at this link:

For your information:
- User name is your APEGBC 6 digit System ID#.
- Password is your date of birth in yyyymmdd format ( no slashes ).
Becoming an EIT
allows you to:
This depends on
when we receive all the required documents for your application.
If you have an accredited degree and we receive your documents
you could be enrolled as quickly as a week.
If more academic
assessment is required, it will take longer. Once your
documents have arrived here we will be better able to decide
what will be required for you to demonstrate academic qualification.

To obtain your EIT status you must demonstrate that you have met the minimum academic requirements. To apply for registration as an engineer in training , you are required to have the equivalent of graduation from a four year full time bachelors program in applied science, engineering, geoscience, science or technology.
For Canadian applicants this normally means that you have a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited Canadian university program.
If you do not have an undergraduate degree in engineering from an accredited Canadian university program, your academic background will be assessed and you may be assigned academic examinations.
You may be granted exemption from examinations. These are the most common causes for exemption:
- you have an undergraduate engineering degree recognized by an engineering accreditation body that has a Mutual Recognition Agreement with APEGBC (EAC of ABET-USA; Engineering Council-UK, IEAust-Australia, IPENZ-New Zealand and IEI-Ireland for graduates since 1989; HKIE-Hong Kong for graduates since 1995; ECSA-South Africa for graduates since 1999; JABEE – Japan for graduates since 2005; IES – Singapore for graduates since 2006; IEET - Chinese Taipei for graduates since 2007; ABEEK - Korea for graduates since 2007; and CTI-France); or
- you have an undergraduate engineering degree and an approved postgraduate engineering degree, in the same discipline as that of your undergraduate engineering degree; or
- you have an undergraduate engineering degree and at least seven years of engineering experience or you have graduated from an ECSA-accredited program (South Africa) prior to 1999. The decision to grant a reduction or an exemption is based on the results of a one-hour interview held at the APEGBC office.
