When you sign the application form, you will also be signing a declaration that you have reviewed the Engineers & Geoscientists Act.

Application fee

Please check the FEE SCHEDULE for the most current fees.

Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status

You need to provide a certified copy of your Canadian Citizenship (citizenship card, birth certificate or current Canadian passport) or Permanent Resident Status.

To have a copy certified, make a photocopy of your document and ask a P.Eng., P.Geo., or Notary Public to sign and stamp it as a "true copy of the original". Alternatively, you may bring your original document to the APEGBC office and we can make a certified copy for you at no cost.

Please do not send your original citizenship card, birth certificate, current Canadian Passport or Permanent Resident Status Card to APEGBC.

Work Experience Details

This is a detailed description of your engineering or geoscience work experience.  It should be in first-person, typewritten/word-processed format on standard-sized paper (8.5 x 11 inches) and organized for clarity of reading. Your experience must be presented in chronological order and provide the following information for each position/employer:

  • dates of engagement, name of the employer, your position and the name and position of your professional supervisor;
  • a first-person description of the work for which you were responsible, including a description of the projects in which you were involved and your role in each project;
  • clearly identify the engineering/geosciences problems you encountered and how you solved them;
  • methods, resources, standards and codes upon which you relied to carry out the work;
  • supervision you provided (if any);
  • other details as applicable that clearly demonstrate to APEGBC’s reviewers the nature and level of your engineering or geosciences experience and your competence.

Any gaps or overlaps in time periods should be explained. APEGBC will be looking for evidence of a progression of experience and responsibility throughout your career.
As a guideline, a typical experience report will not be less than ten pages, single-spaced. Note that publications and/or training do not count as part of the Work Experience Details Report and should be listed at the end.

An engineering work experience detail documentation template is available. Currently it is not mandatory to submit this template as part of your work experience summary documentation.

EITs and GITs who record their experience using the Online Experience Reporting system do not need to submit work experience details in hard copy format but must follow the guidelines outlined above.

Specific Work Experience Detail Guidelines

For Project and Construction Management Please refer to the following guideline the Guideline for Evaluation of Project and Construction Management

For Satisfactory Experience: Application of Theory, In Mining Industry by Area of Practice. Please refer to the following Guideline

For Experience gained by University Faculty, please refer to APEGBC’s Guideline on  Evaluation of Professional Engineering or Geoscience Experience Gained by University Professors

Practice Declaration From

You must submit a completed Practice Declaration Form

Specific Discipline Requirements

If you are applying for registration in Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering. Forest Engineering, Integrated Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architectural Engineering, Software Engineering or Structural Engineering there are additional requirements.

For Computer Engineering you must submit a Computer Engineering Checklist.

For Environmental Engineering you must submit an Environmental Engineering Checklist and your work experience details must follow the Environmental Engineering Experience Guidelines.

For Forest Engineering you must meet specific Required Competencies for Application of Theory for Forest Engineering in addition to the other five general elements of the Satisfactory Engineering Experience requirements

For Integrated Engineering you must meet the Integrated Engineering Criteria.

For Marine Engineering your work experience details must follow the Marine Engineering Experience Guidelines.

For Naval Architectural Engineering your work experience details must follow the Naval Architectural Engineering Experience Guidelines.

For Software Engineering you must submit a Software Engineering Checklist and your work experience details must follow the Software Engineering Experience Guidelines.

For Structural Engineering you must demonstrate seismic design experience and/or you must have seismic design courses in your transcripts.

Transcripts

A transcript is a document that lists all of the courses that you took and the grades that you received at your university/college/or other academic institute.  A transcript also usually states the name of your degree or diploma and the date on which it was granted.

You must ask your academic institute to send your transcripts directly to APEGBC via post or courier only.  APEGBC does not accept transcripts via fax or email from academic institutes.
If your academic institute is not able to send us your transcripts you must write a letter to APEGBC explaining your situation.   The letter should state how you have tried to get the transcripts and request that certified copies of the original transcripts already in your possession be accepted.  Universities can almost always send us your transcript.

If your academic institution requires a formal request from APEGBC to have your transcripts sent please forward them an APEGBC transcript request letter

If you are already an EIT with APEGBC, then your undergraduate transcript is on file.  However, if you have earned additional degrees since becoming enrolled as an EIT you must ask your university to send APEGBC these transcripts.  If you want to receive credit towards registration for your additional degrees then you must provide copies of your thesis abstracts.

References

On the application form you will be asked to nominate a minimum of four referees who can validate your engineering experience.  Combined, the referees should cover as much of your engineering experience as possible but a minimum of four years must be covered.  Credit may not be given for experience that cannot be validated by references and you may be asked to provide additional referees.

You are responsible for sending a blank reference form and a copy of your work experience details to each of your referees.  The referee must then send the completed reference form signed and dated directly to APEGBC by mail or fax. Completed reference forms signed and dated can also be emailed to register@apeg.bc.ca.

Reference forms submitted to APEGBC must be signed and dated by the referee, forms received without signature and date will be considered incomplete and not accepted.

Canadian experience must be verified by Canadian P.Eng. referees.  International experience must be verified by international referees and these should be either Professional Engineers or the equivalent.

Download a reference form.
