Innovation magazine, the journal of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, is inviting photo submissions for its 2011/2012 Project Highlights. This pictorial feature, published annually in our July/August issue, showcases the diverse activities of BC’s professional engineers and geoscientists both at home and abroad.

Members or companies may submit photographs of engineering or geoscience projects in any discipline undertaken during the past 12 months, within or outside BC, employing APEGBC members. Photographs may be original colour prints or high-resolution digital image files. Photos must be accompanied by captions of no more than 150 words

Please note that due to space limitations, we are not always able to accommodate all submissions. Only one submission per company will be eligible for selection, except where space permits. Members working for large companies are recommended to coordinate their project submissions to avoid multiple or duplicate submissions.

Photo Quality Specifications
Photos for the 2011/2012 Project Highlights can be submitted as original 35mm colour prints or digital photos.

Digital Photos:

  • May be submitted in .jpg or .tif file format only;
  • Must have a minimum image resolution of 300 dpi at 4" x 6" in size.

Please do not embed images within a Word document or submit collage-type or composite images. Photos will not be returned unless specifically requested.

Caption Specifications
Photos must be accompanied by a 100-150 word caption that describes the project, and, wherever possible, identifies the owners and professionals involved. Additionally, members are encouraged to describe the sustainability aspects of the project being submitted where applicable. Captions must not exceed 150 words. Please submit these captions as a separate MS Word file or text file together with digital image files by e-mail or CD. (View examples from last year’s project pictorial.)

Sending in Submissions
Photo submissions, complete with caption and a covering letter or e-mail containing the submitter’s name and contact information, must be received at the Association office in Burnaby by Friday, May 11, 2012.  All project submissions received by this date will be considered.

Submissions may be e-mailed if the file size (per e-mail) is 6 MB or smaller; please supply larger image files on CD. Submissions should be directed to pictorial@apeg.bc.ca or Innovation Project Highlights c/o #200 - 4010 Regent St., Burnaby, BC  V5C 6N2. Questions about the pictorial can be directed to Melinda Lau, Managing Editor, at mlau@apeg.bc.ca or (604) 412-4866 or 1-888-430-8035 ext. 4866.

Important note: By submitting material to Innovation, you grant to Innovation a royalty-free, worldwide license to publish the material in Innovation magazine; and you warrant that you have the authority to grant such rights and have obtained waivers of all associated moral rights.  Innovation reserves the right to edit the material for length, clarity and conformity with our editorial guidelines and is under no obligation to publish any or all submissions or any portion thereof including credits.

Information on Criteria for Selection
In addition to meeting the submission criteria above, when selecting project submissions for the pictorial, the key considerations for the Editorial Board are:

  • Projects from a variety of disciplines to reflect the diversity of the work performed by members;
  • Representation from a wide variety of employers of APEGBC members;
  • Sustainability Features; and
  • Visual appeal.
