Powers Creek Water Treatment Plant TourThe Okanagan Branch of APEGBC and the Westbank Irrigation District are pleased to invite you to a tour of the award winning Powers Creek Water Treatment Plant (PCWTP).

Completed in February 2007, the PCWTP is a state-of-the-art facility providing 54ML/day of clean, safe drinking water to approximately 14,000 residents in the West Kelowna area. Designed by Earth Tech Inc. and constructed by Maple Reindeers Inc., the $18.7M project combines the clarification and filtration processes within the same treatment cell. This is referred to as In-Filter Dissolved Air Flotation (In-Filter DAF). This design permits a smaller building footprint and reduced capital costs. The PCWTP is the largest In-Filter DAF water treatment plant in Canada. Both UV and chlorine are used to ensure effective disinfection throughout the distribution system.

The PCWTP has received the 2008 Award of Excellence from the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia, the 2007 Technology Innovator Award from the Westbank Chamber of Commerce, as well as recognition from the Interior Health Authority.

The 1 hour tour will include information on operational performance and a brief video of the construction phase. We will also discuss how the use of Neptune water meters has reduced water usage and helped indentify leaks and problem users. We will have a demonstration unit on hand at the tour. Refreshments and sandwiches will be provided.
