Supporters:
A special thank you to all of the volunteers who made this an event a big success. An extra special thanks to Brent Lyon who put this event together on a very short timeline, and also to the volunteers from UBC's GeeringUp that provided great support on the day of the event. We also appreciate Mike Proudfoot, the Gateway Project Director for the Ministry of Transportation for coming out and presenting the winners with their awards. Elementary CatagoryIn the elementary catagory there were three prizes. An iPod Nano, sponsored by Stantec Engineering went to the first place winner Tyler Tom. The second place contestant, David Stojkovic, received a $100 gift certificate from Futureshop also sponsored by Stantec, and the third place winner received a $50 gift certificate sponsored by Stantec.
SecondaryIn the secondary catagory there was only one prize. The Sony Playstation 3 sponsored by Earthtech was won by Kyle Martin. Special recognition is also deserved by Derek Gregory who designed and built a bridge that was able to withstand 4230 N of force before it broke. However, the bridge had elements that applied a horizontal load on the testing apparatus during the test and therefore contravened rule 2.11 and was therefore disqualified.
Post SecondaryThe post secondary category had 19 entries, mostly from UBC engineering competing for two $500 prizes sponsored by ND Lea and McElhanney. The winners were Brady Chu and Brandon Clague.
Professional
In the professional category, winning bragging rights and an Associated Engineering Fleece jacket was Tony Martin, a bridge design Engineer with Hatch Mott McDonald. Tony also had the overall best performing bridges meeting all of the rules.
