Dear DAWEG Members,
DAWEG was founded on the core values of professionalism, equity, and inclusiveness as we aim to increase the number of women in Engineering and Geoscience by encouraging young women to consider these professions. Over the past few years the focus of the division has changed from holding PD events for women members to encouraging women to attend APEGBC branch events and to be active within the association.
I feel we can still reach our goal of celebrating the success of all women in Engineering and Geoscience by supporting those volunteering their time through mentoring and encouraging young women to consider the Engineering and Geosciences profession.
DAWEG is committed to operating in a sustainable manner including maintaining financial viability, serving the needs of the members and society, and benefiting the environment.

To encourage young minds in science and math, DAWEG annually sponsors the BC Science Fair. Special awards are offered for junior and senior students who effectively and enthusiastically communicate an original solution to an engineering or applied science problem. All practicing engineers and educators from the APEGBC membership are urged to step up in their region to act as either a judge or award presenter at this once a year event. Contact the Director of Outreach for info about representing DAWEG at the following locations; Greater Vancouver Region (UBC), Fraser Valley Region (SevenOaks Mall), South Fraser (SFU Surrey) and Vancouver Island (U Vic). |

To honour and remember the 14 engineering students killed in Montreal on December 6 of 1989, DAWEG hosts on that date the Dec 6th Memorial and Social for all APEGBC members, male and female. The Undergraduate Salary Seminar is an important presentation for every new graduate and young professional to give valuable insight on fair salary compensation, impactful techniques to market yourself, and how to build industry contacts. This event, first developed and offered by DAWEG founding members, is organized with support from DAWEG/APEGBC by the respective Engineering Faculties.

DAWEG executive board members offer program planning assistance and speaker suggestions to student and industry groups organizing retreats and socials events from networking evenings or personal development presentations to full weekend retreats. The connections formed through involvement with APEGBC and professional service give the board directors a unique position to tap into the industry and community. DAWEG directors provide leadership to groups whose goal are to promote careers in engineering and geoscience, help individuals advance in their chosen career path and make the professions positive and inclusive for both genders. APEGBC offers a wide range of professional develop and technical seminars. DAWEG does not organize regular workshops on such topics, as the division sees more benefit in attending career related sessions without regard to or focus on gender. By signing up often for APEGBC PD offerings, women adhere with continuing professional development guidelines and have the opportunity expand their networks. |
Highlighting and celebrating successes of women in engineering and geoscience. Nominating former Board Directors and DAWEG members for service and leadership roles within APEGBC. Please contact the Past Chair for more information or requests for candidates. |
For all APEGBC members (P.Eng/P.Geo, Limited License, EIT/GIT, and MAPS) who would like to receive news about DAWEG on-going programs, volunteer opportunities and events, membership can be added to your annual dues via the online payment system. Remember to do this yearly, during APEGBC payment period. Click the 'Add a division' button, then select DAWEG as an option.
