What's New?

Dear DEP Members,

This is a brief notice to let you know that the January 2010 issue of the DEP Newsletter is now available. Please click here.

Happy New Year to you all. The DEP is excited to be starting another year and look forward to growing the division and serving our members. Included in this newsletter are the results of the recent member survey, the DEP’s strategic plan for 2010 and a listing of upcoming professional development events. Thank you for taking the time to complete our recent member survey, we had an impressive 50% return rate and your input will help direct our activities over the coming year. Congratulations to Adrianne Gilbride, P.Eng. who will be taking home some VQA wine for taking part in the survey.

We thank you for your support of the DEP, and we encourage you to forward your comments and input on the division dep.apegbc@gmail.com.  With your input, together we can work to strengthen the practices of environmental engineering and environmental geoscience in BC.

Site Remediation for Professional Engineers

DEP Members:

Thank you for your interest in the new Division of Environmental Professionals under APEGBC.

One of the key goals of the Division is involvement in creation and review of standards or guidance.

The Canadian Engineering Qualification Board of Engineers Canada has prepared a “Model Guide for Constituent Members: Site Remediation for Professional Engineers” in January 2009.

APEGBC has asked DEP to make a recommendation to Council as to whether this should be accepted:
1. As written
2. With minor enhancements
3. With significant changes

The other option is for it not be used in BC.

The DEP takes in members from a variety of backgrounds including but not limited to Site Remediation, if you have an interest in site remediation, and would like to be part of the review, download the Model Guide here.  If you have any questions regarding this initiative or the model guide, please contact lesley.reid@jacqueswhitford.com or vijay.kallur@snclavalin.com It is requested that any comments be forwarded to lesley.reid@jacqueswhitford.com prior to May 19, 2009.
