Compensation Survey

2010 Compensation Survey Results

Member response to APEGBC's 2010 online compensation survey was excellent – over 4,800 members from across BC, the rest of Canada, and around the world took time to provide valuable information on their professional compensation and benefits.

Analysis of the data suggests that compensation for APEGBC members has kept up with inflation since the last compensation survey undertaken in 2008. An examination of base compensation by responsibility point range for all valid respondents primarily working in BC shows that, on average, the median base salary for these APEGBC members has increased by 1.2% from 2008 to 2010, or 0.6% annually with some categories having seen greater increases, while some experienced decreases. This is almost 15.4% higher than the average annual Canadian inflation rate of 0.52% for the period July 2008 to July 2010 as reported by the Bank of Canada.

The accompanying table provides information on median base salary values by responsibility point range and compares this with the 2008 figures. If you have not already done so, you can determine your own responsibility point value by using APEGBC's Online Employment Responsibility Evaluation. Please refer to the Benchmark Employment Descriptions to confirm the accuracy of your responsibility point level assessment.
