APR, MAY, & JUN/07. DAWEG SPRING SPEAKER SERIES. DAWEG is hosting an early morning speaker series, sponsored by BC Hydro during the last week of April, May, and June, 2007. The events will include breakfast and will feature talks by engineers and corporate managers from the utilities, manufacturing and alternative fuels industries around the theme of "Shaping the future now...for generations to come". The sessions will be held at a different central location each month across the Lower Mainland in an effort to make it convenient to attend at least one session . Everyone is welcome. MAY – JULY, 2006. CASCADIA’S BUILDINGS IN BALANCE SERIES. Includes workshops and seminars on the most current and innovative issues in sustainable development and design in Cascadia’s three largest cities: Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. JUN 1/07. BUILDING COMPLETE COMMUNITIES: DEVELOPERS LEADING THE WAY. Smart Growth BC will be hosting our fourth annual conference to bring together land use professionals, developers, government staff and elected officials. JUNE 21/07. LEED CANADA FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION. This one day workshop provides a technical overview of the LEED Canada-NC Green Building Rating System. LEED NC recognizes building that incorporate design, construction and operational practices that combine healthy, high quality and high-performance systems and materials with reduced environmental impacts. JUNE 22/07. LEED FOR CONSTRUCTION. This ½ day seminar introduces the LEED Rating System and sustainable design issues that affect general and trade contractors, manufacturers and suppliers. JUNE 22/07. A NEW APPROACH TO INTEGRATED BUILDING DESIGN.. Thisworkshop introduces an alternate approach to integrated building and HVAC systems design that results in lower operational costs for building owners, improves occupant comfort and reduces environmental impacts. JUN 28/07. INTRODUCING GREEN BUILDINGS & LEED® TO CONTRACTORS. This seminar will present an overview of the LEED® requirements from the contractor’s perspective, then delve into the practical details of how project managers and site superintendents can navigate the LEED® process to successfully deliver a LEED® project. JUL 14/07. DISCOVERY DAY FESTIVAL. Everyone's invited to build the Mystery Solar Powered Device at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in the City of Burnaby. Kids from ages 7 to 107 can join in this fun competition. Schools and science clubs are encouraged to send their teams. Look for the Solar Power Roadshow tent at the Discovery Day festival. AUGUST 22 - 24/07. 18TH CANADIAN HYDROTECHNICAL CONFERENCE. The 3-day conference will continue the tradition of biennial CSCE hydrotechnical specialty conferences. Practitioners, academics, and students are invited to attend. The abstract deadline is January 31, 2007. Location: Winnipeg, MB. SEPTEMBER 15-16 2007. BUILDING COMMUNITIES SYMPOSIUM. This two-day symposium for women in engineering in BC is hosted by UBC's Networking Engineering Women (NEW@ubc). This event will involve workshop sessions on how to develop networks, build mentoring relationships, develop leadership skills, and create communities. On the second day of the workshop, participants will self-organize and plan, develop and create web pages for their own networking/community/interaction event. Location: Loon Lake, Maple Ridge, BC. SEPTEMBER 22 – 27, 2007. CANADIAN DAM ASSOCIATION 2007 ANNUAL CONFERENCE ‘A Climate of Change’. The annual conference is the signature event for CDA and typically attracts over 200 dam industry professionals, representing utilities, mining companies, consultants, government officials and service companies. OCTOBER 3/07. LEED CANADA FOR COMMERCIAL INTERIORS (CI). This one day workshop for building tenants and designers provides an in-depth discussion of the LEED-CI credit requirements and certification process. The training will address the basic principles of sustainability as they relate to tenant improvement projects and present the definitive standard for what constitutes a green interior. OCT 25-27/07. APEGBC ANNUAL CONFERENCE & AGM. BC's Premiere Engineering & Geoscience Event will be happening in Whistler, BC at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre with the host hotel being the Hilton Whistler Resort and Spa.
