Well over 1,000 APEGBC members volunteer their services to APEGBC every year. Many of these members serve as committee or task force volunteers, while others participate in Branch and Division executives in their own region or area of expertise. Volunteering provides the opportunity to:
- Develop and enhance skills
- Learn about what other Engineers and Geoscientists are doing in your field
- Gain professional development hours
- Give back to your profession
- Network and build connections with colleagues
Council is responsible for setting policy and direction for the Association under the authority of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act. The Association's Strategic Plan provides the Vision, Mission, Values and Goals that help guide Council's efforts. Council has developed Governance Policies to clearly set out the role of Council as the governing authority. These policies are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure they best reflect the needs of APEGBC. For more information about the nomination process, please visit: http://www.apeg.bc.ca/about/council/nominationcriteria.html.

As BC's premiere engineering and geoscience event, the two-day Annual Conference provides APEGBC members and other professionals with numerous opportunities to meet their ongoing technical, corporate and professional development needs. Every October, the conference is held in Victoria, Kelowna, Whistler or the Lower Mainland with close to 700 people in attendance. We offer a comprehensive professional development program combining over forty industry-leading technical and business sessions.
If you are interested in giving back to the profession and gaining professional exposure by volunteering to present a one hour and fifteen minute session, please submit a brief seminar description, biography, resume and at least three references to cpd@apeg.bc.ca. We are currently accepting submissions for our 2010 conference which will take place in Whistler. Please send in your submissions before January 15, 2010.
An excellent way to get involved is through your local Branch or technical Division. For more information, please contact the appropriate Branch Chair or Division Chair.
Are you interested in investing about one hour each month to enhancing the future of a Mentee? If so, please fill out the Mentor Seeking Mentee - Application Form. Please visit this link for a listing of mentees seeking mentors. For more information about the Mentoring Program, please visit http://www.apeg.bc.ca/services/mentoring.html.
The Mentoring Committee meets one evening a month for 1-1.5 hours at the APEGBC office at #200-4010 Regent Street in Burnaby. Committee members living outside of the Lower Mainland participate in meetings via teleconference. During meetings, the Committee discusses mentor-trainee matches, and between meetings, Committee members contact potential mentors. APEGBC can provide Mentoring Committee members with suggestions for potential mentors. Once a match is made, administrative duties are carried out by an APEGBC staff member. For more information about the Mentoring Program, please visit http://www.apeg.bc.ca/services/mentoring.html.
Engineering and geoscience are important to BC’s future, and we want to encourage students to consider careers in engineering and geoscience in order to ensure that the professions continue to thrive in the years to come.
Showcasing engineering and geoscience as exciting, rewarding, and challenging careers also raises the profile of the professions by exposing parents through their children to the contributions of engineers and geoscientists to society. We invite professional members and university students to participate in this province-wide member volunteer program.
If you interested in engaging students about careers in engineering and geoscience please fill out the Career Awareness Volunteer Form.
