Teams of students from Grade 1 - 6 will explore the principles and theories of science first hand at the 2012 APEGBC Science Games on March 31, 2012 at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.
This interschool event is organized by The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC) as part of National Engineering and Geoscience Month. APEGBC is the regulatory body for engineers and geoscientists practicing in BC. The goal of this event is to provide a fun environment where students are able to showcase their science talent, and promote interest in science education and careers in scientific fields.
The APEGBC Science Games is an interactive science competition which allows students to investigate how science affects their everyday lives. Students work together on a set of applications or problem solving challenges which demonstrate the interesting and entertaining side of scientific exploration.
This event is team oriented and activities align with many areas of scientific study while students work together and interact as a group. Teams will use their science skills and ideas to create original solutions to problems.
Students are placed into two divisions for competition.
Division 1: Grades 1 - 3
Division 2: Grades 4 - 6
There are two types of Science Games events:
Work-at-home Events: These are made in advance and brought to the Science Games for testing and judging or practiced in advance and performed on the day of APEGBC’s Science Games.
Mystery Events: These are solved the day of the Science Games and no pre-planning is needed.
