Are you a strategic and creative problem-solver, experienced in mining project development and operations, and adept at managing complex issues? If so, bring your leadership skills and engineering expertise to our dynamic Mineral Management team.

As Chief Mine Engineer, you will contribute substantially to the development, implementation, and revision of policies, procedures, and planning related to mining and mineral exploration activity (for both quartz and placer operations), so as to support responsible stewardship, sustainable development, and management of Yukon’s mineral resources. In this key role, you will supervise two mineral technologists as well as provide expert technical advice to the Branch, the Department, and the Government, regarding major mineral licensing issues and policy and guideline development, in order to facilitate informed decision-making by government as the industry regulator. You will also support the professional image and credibility of the Branch through your sound recommendations and collaborative working relationships, grounded in strong technical understanding.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in mining engineering or geological engineering, along with experience in the following areas:
    • Developing, delivering, and evaluating plans, programs, and policies, for mineral project development and management.
    • Participating in the development of mining projects, including aspects of design, construction, operation, and closure.
    • Building partnerships within and outside your organization.
    • Financial and performance analysis of projects in the mineral resources areas.
    • Assessing and designing for environmental impacts of mining projects.
    • Financial and human resource management.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability:

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their competence according to the standards set within the Yukon Government Core Competency Framework, available at www.psc.gov.yk.ca/publications.html.

We are looking for an individual who displays competencies in the area of self-management and the ability to use strategic and creative problem-solving skills and to effectively manage complex issues. The successful candidate must have strong leadership and relationship-building skills, and work well in teams and in a horizontal management structure. This position requires considerable knowledge of environmental and financial considerations in the development and operation of mining projects.

Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Job requirements: Travel within Yukon.

This is a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.
