Position Description:

The Manager, Power and Utilities, will report into the Director of Power and Utilities, and work closely with the senior executive team and the financial management staff. Their focus will be in the key functional areas of the performance of Fengate’s power and utilities assets. They will oversee a variety of duties including project development, construction, transition, and asset management activities. The incumbent will oversee a variety of projects, review reports from service providers, and create standardized operational processes and procedures. This position will be based out of Fengate’s Vancouver office (preferably) or alternatively in Oakville, Ontario.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Receive and evaluate monthly performance reports and confirm the operator is performing in accordance with their contractual obligations.
  • Support the review and validation of all deliverables required per the Asset Management contracts, and assist the Director of Power and Utilities on the production of all Board reports.
  • Monitor developed operational procedures to ensure they are being effectively practiced and executed.
  • Review operational issues and trends, identify potential improvements, and participate in the implementation of solutions.
  • Perform detailed audits of the operator’s performance and reporting as requested by the Director of Power and Utilities.
  • Manage the receipt and distribution of change orders required or allowed for the specified asset.
  • Attend meetings as required for each asset.
  • Assist as required with due diligence and review of potential acquisitions.

Reporting Lines:

This position reports to the Director, Power and Utilities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four years of experience within the power industry, preferably as a project manager or electrical engineer.
  • Preference given to candidates with specific knowledge and experience in solar, wind, biomass, and hydro power projects.
  • Knowledge of public private partnership projects is also considered an asset.
  • Membership in applicable organizations or designations (P.Eng., C.E.T.) is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or electrical design.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines as a part of a team.
  • Strong negotiation skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong business acumen and judgment are crucial.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within a small office.
  • Ability to travel to various project sites as required.

Performance Metrics and Compensation:

Success will be based upon mutually agreed upon milestones. Compensation will be composed of a base salary, performance bonus, and robust benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will start as soon as possible.
