Annual Salary: $60,678.23 – $79,121.54; plus a 4.4% Recruitment and Retention Adjustment

Bring your subject matter expertise in waste management to supporting sustainable communities in British Columbia.

The Environmental Standards Branch is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a wide array of regulatory and non-regulatory approaches to waste management and environmental protection throughout British Columbia. 

As the Environmental Management Officer, you are responsible for managing the development of environmental management legislation, policies, and standards in the area of municipal waste management throughout British Columbia, with a preference for municipal wastewater management. Current examples include the administration of the Municipal Wastewater Regulation, Organic Matter Recycling Regulation, and the Landfill Gas Management Regulation, developing tools and guidelines for solid waste management planning, and outreaching with planning tools related to climate leadership, organics diversion, and food waste prevention. The section works with a wide variety of stakeholders including local government, private waste sector, environmental stakeholders, planners, developers, and First Nations to develop and enhance environmental stewardship in waste management in BC.

As the ideal candidate, you are an engineer with experience in developing policy for municipal waste management, with a preference for municipal wastewater management. Highly skilled at balancing competing interests in decision making, you exhibit exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills when providing professional engineering and policy advice to the ministry. You are a results-oriented team player that uses a collaborative approach, is flexible and adapts well to shifting priorities. You thrive on your excellent problem solving expertise and persuasion skills when promoting solutions and motivating stakeholders.
