Everyone faces tough conversations in their lives. Unfortunately, these conversations sometimes go poorly and when the stakes are high, this can result in a negative and long-lasting impact. As professionals, we need to learn when and how to handle tough conversations so that we can meet personal, professional and organizational goals. In this workshop, we explore why it's important to get better at having tough conversations. You will learn what makes a conversation tough, what we can do about them and develop skills and a process for dealing with them constructively.

Workshop Objectives

  • Explore the impact of tough conversations and when and how to have them.
  • Learn how to create a communication environment that supports tough conversations.
  • Discover the steps involved in successfully navigating through a tough conversation.
  • Gain skills and strategies to manage oneself when the stakes are high.
  • Develop communication skills that promote understanding and resolution.
  • Explore a process to resolve conflict and find a path forward.

  • What to do before you have a tough conversation.
  • Understanding the process for engaging in a tough conversation.
  • Exploring our personal triggers and reactions.

  • Communication techniques for tough conversations.

Presenter

Claudia Verburgh, CMC, CHRP
Leadership & Team Development Consultant, Coach and Trainer

As a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Teacher, and Speaker, Claudia is passionate about creating workplaces that engage people to do their best work. The key to great workplaces is having great leaders on board. With the resources and insights offered through John’s teachings, combined with her experiences and background,she is excited to be helping leaders at all levels to grow. Claudia brings over 25 years of experience in advising, mentoring, and coaching leaders, helping them to become stronger and to build better workplaces.

Her background includes leadership roles in business and volunteer organizations and over 20 years of consulting experience with a wide array of organizations. Over the years, Claudia has been involved in designing and implementing many solutions to assist leaders in improving the people side of their business. Her varied experience includes leadership development, training, and facilitation, team-building, strategic human resources consulting, management assessment, and outplacement coaching and consulting. In addition to her certification with the John Maxwell Team, Claudia is also a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
