APEGBC is hosting a Student and Industry Night at the University of Victoria. This fun and casual evening provides a great opportunity for industry professionals to share their knowledge, career anecdotes, and advice with earth science and engineering students. It's also a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow engineers and geoscience students.

Schedule

6:30 PM – 7:00 PM: Registration and refreshments
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Presentations
8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Networking and refreshments

Speakers

Wanda Miller-Sorley, P.Geo., P.Ag.
Terrain Specialist, Golder Associates Ltd.

Wanda Miller-Sorley is a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) and Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) in BC with a Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University (Earth Science/Physical Geography). She is a terrain specialist with over 14 years of experience in terrain mapping, and slope stability classification and geohazard investigations for baseline, design, and construction-related projects in BC, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Chile, and Peru. 
 
Wanda currently works for Golder Associates Ltd. out of their Victoria office, and resides with her husband and stepsons with their permaculture- backyard-to-be in the Cedar Hill area. As a past chair for the APEGBC Vancouver Island Branch and an ongoing event supporter, Wanda is looking forward to sharing her experiences and conversation at this event. 
 

Jamie Sawchuk, P.Eng.
Partner, Deloitte Inc.

Jamie Sawchuk is a Partner in Deloitte Canada, consulting practice. He is the Deloitte Public Sector Leader in BC, and leads Deloitte’s Managed Analytics initiative. Jamie is also the BC Lead on Deloitte’s National Innovation, Disruption and Exponential Technologies Council, and a member of Deloitte’s Global Innovation Leadership team.

Jamie specializes in helping organizations achieve efficiency, service, and alignment with their objectives through enabling technology, shared services, and alternative forms of service delivery. Jamie has helped a diverse group of public and private sector clients to streamline operations and realize customer service excellence.

He has worked with international and domestic clients for over 25 years to conduct due diligence, review strategic and operational options, recommend strategies, engage stakeholders, and implement large scale transformation. This has included health and life-sciences entities to design and implement cutting-edge strategies and innovative business models. He has joined the Premier on the last four trade missions to help foster international opportunities for innovation, research, and collaboration.

Jamie holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and is a Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba. He is a successful triathlete who enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
