Implementation of In Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) requires both a knowledge of chemistry and the applicable field practises. As such this presentation will include two speakers, a chemical engineer and a hydrogeologist both with 20 years or more of experience. Mr. Jean Pare, P.Eng., a chemical engineer will explain the chemistry of ISCO and Mr. Joe Davis, GIT AScT a hydrogeologist will show local case studies of ISCO. Jean will explain the chemical oxidation process and how to estimate the required amounts of compounds and the different chemical compounds used for specific circumstances or outcomes. Joe will present specific field projects from Lower Mainland areas, the methods used to remediate using ISCO and the project outcomes from all projects to date.
Mr. Davis has a bachelor’s degree in geophysics obtained from the University of Calgary in 1987 and a master’s degree in hydrogeology received from the University of British Columbia in 1995. He has practiced environmental consulting in the province of British Columbia since 1989. He is a member of ASTTBC as an AScT (Environmental) and a member of APEGBC as a Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT). Joe Davis is the principal of Ventus Consulting Inc., a BC-based environmental consulting firm specializing in chemical and biological insitu contaminant remediation. Joe remediates about 50 petroleum hydrocarbon sites per year using insitu or excavation approaches for remediation.
Mr. Jean Pare has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering obtained from Laval University in 1992. He has been involved for the last 22 years in the evaluation, development, design, and promotion of both conventional and innovative environmental technologies. Last year Jean worked on over 400 sites providing chemical engineering expertise to soil and groundwater contaminants like petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated compounds, metals, and pesticides.
