Task Force Seeks Input on Regulation of BC Engineering and Geoscience Organizations
APEGBC is seeking your feedback on the topic of corporate practice in BC. At this second stage of consultation, the Advisory Task Force on Corporate Practice is reviewing options for the potential regulation of engineering and geoscience organizations in BC as a means to enhance public protection. The task force invites members and stakeholders to participate in this stage of consultation by reading the discussion paper and participating in an online survey on this topic.
The discussion paper, released September 26, 2016, reviews a number of concepts that the task force is examining to inform their recommendation:
- The drivers for examining corporate practice and corporate regulation;
- Key issues, concerns, and benefits associated with regulating corporate practice;
- A jurisdictional scan of existing regulatory models in BC and across Canada; and
- An assessment of the potential regulatory and non-regulatory models that could enhance public protection.
Accompanying the discussion paper is a companion webinar that was held on October 5, 2016. The webinar video is now available online. It is essential that practising members are part of the process of evaluation and that the approach is balanced and engages members throughout. Your participation in the survey will ensure that the task force’s feedback is inclusive and representative.
The survey takes approximate 15 minutes to complete and responses are anonymous. The survey will remain open until November 30, 2016.
This stage of consultation builds on and incorporates feedback received during the summer (Stage 1 Consultation), and focuses on gathering more detailed input on members' and stakeholders preferences for options regarding corporate oversight. After evaluating all input, the task force will deliver a final recommendation to Council in spring 2017.
